The
Bophelo Impilo/Nutrition
Club Concept Herbalife has capitalized on the growth potential of America by overcoming the challenge of selling to consumers with limited disposable income. The company developed Nutrition Clubs, a derivative of the party plan, whereby distributors sell individually priced, single servings of product as a way to provide consumers with product exposure at a digestible price. The result has been phenomenal, with Herbalife posting 132 percent year-over-year growth in Mexico. While the United States still represents Herbalife’s largest market, the 20,000+ Nutrition Clubs operated by distributors in Mexico have driven Mexican revenue to exceed that of the United States during recent months. This concept (Bophelo Impilo Club) has been introduced into South Africa during the past year (2006), in areas such as Soweto, Khayaletsha, Guguletu and Langa, and the midlands of Natal as well as the rural areas of the Eastern Cape and Northern Privinces. The basic idea of the Nutrition Club is to bring good nutrition to to the people who need it most. Buying food that is nutritional and healthy is often out of reach of the average low-income earner, so a Bophelo Impilo Club offers a nutritional shake and energy tea at a low daily cost. People concentrate more on nutrition than weight loss, and the Club allows members of the community an opportuniity to discuss health and nutrition issues in a relaxed atmosphere. The Club concentrates mainly on two products; Thermojetics green tea and Formula 1 Shake (NPD). The club concept ensures that the members receive the daily vitamins, minerals, proteins etc. that they need to stay healthy. Other products in the Herbalife range are also available from the clubs. Great results are achieved at these clubs, and Club owners are not only helping others to become healthy but also to start their own home business. By having club members buying shake and tea daily, the club owner makes money on the product sales. Even a moderate membership of 15 guests per day over a 24 day month (6 days per week) will give the club owner a steady income. The club owner can then train other interested people wanting to start a club themselves and start to earn income from club owners in their team.
